Dr Shafia Yang Razali

Dr Shafia Yang Razali graduated from the National University of Singapore Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine in 2011. She worked as a hospital physician in the public health sector in Singapore for 10 years. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine and specialist training in Geriatric Medicine in 2021.

Working with older adults in the hospital made her realize that too many people were becoming frail and dependent despite remaining compliant with conventional medicine. The system did not allow enough contact time between patients and their doctors. Consults barely gave doctors enough time to check in with patients and ended up being touch-and-go sessions that often ended up in additional prescriptions. She observed the same pattern with younger patients in general practice. While non-pharmacological measures featured in treatment plans, there was not enough training to be able to advise patients adequately on lifestyle measures they could adopt to improve their conditions. While conventional medicine certainly had its place, it wasn’t enough.

With this in mind, Dr Shafia quit her job to pursue her functional medicine education full-time. Through courses, 1-on-1 and group coaching, she aims to coach committed clients to become empowered with regard to their own health. In so doing, promoting positive and confident aging for them.
